The property owner for the road accessing, and land surrounding, Neverland in Musquodoboit, has contacted us to communicate that ALL public access on that property, including for climbing, is closed immediately.
We ask that you respect the land owners wishes and not return to Neverland. We realize this is disappointing for some of you but we need to respect the landowner and not return. Please tell anyone who you think might be interested in Neverland as this closure is effective immediately.
Thank you.
As the climbing community grows, we must manage our impact and presence at other crags/trails on privately owned land. At the rest of our crags, please respect parking, road access, trail access, and of course, maintain strict Leave No Trace principles. Car pool when possible to reduce traffic at parking, and if a crag seems full, please climb somewhere else. Our use of outdoor crags is fully dependent on the climbing community maintaining excellent relationships with all stakeholders, including property owners, government and the general public. Please do your part.

Every Thursday, climbers will meet at the Armdale Rotary in the parking lot in front of St. James Church at 6pm sharp! From there climbers will carpool to the climbing area scheduled for that evening.
Climbers of all skill levels are welcome! This is a great way to discover new bouldering spots and get to know other climbers.
Make sure you wear appropriate footwear as you will likely get your feet swamped at least once. A flashlight or headlamp is always handy as we usually always hike out after dark. Dress in comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and bring climbing shoes, chalk and a crash pad if you have them. Be prepared to chip in for gas if you’re catching a ride with someone – it’s always appreciated.
Climbing areas may change at the last minute in order to cater to the group of climbers who attend each week or changes in the weather. Be sure you’re at the rotary BEFORE 6:00 in order stay in the loop!
This year we’re going to try out a sign-up sheet for volunteers to lead the group each week. The only pre-req is a (vague) knowledge of how to get to each area. The more leaders we have, the smoother the season will go! Sign up here!
Seven Bays Bouldering Cafe on Gottigen Street, Halifax.
Why
Hear what we’ve been up to, vote on executive members, eat pizza that we’ve paid for, stick around for some new problems.
Executive Nominations
All positions except president are up for nominations this year. If you think you can add value to the climbing community in some way, have a skill that it looks like we need, have cool new ideas you want support for, want to argue during the work day in a private Facebook group, or just want a fancy title for your resume, then put your name forward for a position and bring all your friends to vote for you (friends must be CNS members, but lets be real, if you care enough about climbing to want to be on the executive, you don’t have any normal friends anymore).
If you are considering a place on the ballot, you must be nominated (or nominate yourself) by emailing climbnovascotia@gmail.com with “CNS EXEC NOMINATION” in the subject line. Nominations will be accepted until April 15 2018 at 11:59pm.
Please include your name, the position you are interested in, and a short summary (300 word maximum) of your qualifications and why you want to sit on the board.
Positions and descriptions are as follows, BUT if there’s something you’re really passionate about and don’t see it listed here, don’t worry about it. These titles are mostly just so we have somewhere to slot you on the website:
President – Ensure alignment of CNS activities with organizational goals and funding qualification criterion, draft meeting agendas, chair monthly meetings, delegate tasks, oversee financials, attend events, deal with government stakeholders, website posts, answer emails, other duties as assigned. *Not up for replacement until 2019*
Membership Coordinator – Retain up-to-date membership list, mail correspondence and membership cards, attend monthly executive meetings, website posts, answer emails, other duties as assigned.
Communications Director – Handle external matters, book event venues, postering, advertisement campaigns, approach sponsors, primary email responder, attend monthly executive meetings, website posts, other duties as assigned.
Access Champion – Monitor all climbing area access issues, uphold excellent relationships with landowners, organize clean and climbs, organize and execute trail maintenance, attend monthly executive meetings, website posts, answer emails, other duties as assigned.
Diversity Liaison – Social outreach, engagement of new climbers and underrepresented groups, organize and attend events, attend monthly executive meetings, website posts, answer emails, other duties as assigned.
Youth Representative – Interface with public school system, support youth climbing competitions and workshops, organize and attend events, attend monthly executive meetings, website posts, answer emails, other duties as assigned.
Secretary – Attend monthly executive meetings, record and distribute meeting minutes, website posts, answer emails, other duties as assigned.
Executive members (with the exception of President) all have a vote in major Climb Nova Scotia undertakings and are expected to exercise their right to vote when called upon. All executive positions are a 1 year term, except for President, which is 2 years in duration.
Executive members are not paid and typically spend up to 5 hours a week on CNS activities when there’s nothing happening, and more when we are busy. President tends to be busier. We can offer you tasty food for meetings, free enrollment in courses that CNS is hosting, subsidized fancy first aid courses or other things you may be interested in, and access to our library of gear (except our nice ice tools, they belong to the president until he abdicates the throne).
Please note, you must be a member in good standing of Climb Nova Scotia to run for a position on the board, and to attend the annual general meeting. You can purchase a membership by clicking here or with cash at the meeting.
If you want to help with CNS but aren’t interested in sitting on the board please let us know. There’s plenty to do and we can always use volunteers for specific projects.

Sean Therien has put up two more hard routes in E-Gully. From the man himself:
‘I want to honour the memory of Marc Mass and as such have named route #1 Electric LadyLand 5.12d. Climb the line of bolts that exit right of Easier said then done 5.9* anchor.
and route #2: Everybody Hurts 5.13 climb the line of bolts that exit left of Easier said then done anchor.
Mark LOVED Jimi Hendrix and I think he would have enjoyed Electric Lady Land…freaking hard moves and then just fun 5.10 climbing to a scenic ledge.
Everybody Hurts I think is a good reference to how everyone who knew Marc is feeling right now…and also…climbing this route will just plain hurt!

Gender equality at the performance pinnacle of the sport
People with fewer than 4 functional limbs burning you off your proj
Beer and snacks for cash
Awkward MC’ing

No annoying alpine-style ‘Imma freeze and die in this tent but mountains are life’ movies
If you answered yes to at least two of the above, you NEED to join CNS and the rest of the climbing community on November 26, at 6:30pm at the Halifax Central Library. Dress code is ‘puffy jacket and scuffed approach shoes.’
Tickets available for $15 ONLY online, as the library now has a ‘no ticket sales at the door’ policy.
If you’re new to the climbing community, this is where you pick up all the hot slang to use at the gym while you’re trying to convince someone that you know what you’re doing so they take you outside for the first time. Show up and take notes.
