Points System

This points system will be used to determine a bouldering athlete's provincial standing based off of their best 2 local results. Local qualifier competitions currently include CNS sanctioned qualifying events held in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

All points awarded in ranking will be given starting based on ordering athletes from highest to lowest using results from the finals round (if available) of any competition. Athletes who do not participate in finals for any reason (such as, but not limited to: injury, illness or scoring below the finals threshold) will then be ranked AFTER finalists, in order from highest to lowest, using their qualifying round scores. When a tie occurs in a competition, both athletes will receive the same number of points and the next positioned athlete will be awarded the points corresponding to their position if there had not been a tie (ex two athletes tie for 1st place and both receive 100 points, the athlete with the next highest score will receive 65 points for 3rd place even though there are no athletes assigned points for 2nd place).

Please note that only Nova Scotian athletes will be accounted for when determining point distribution, therefore published ranking from a competition's final results may differ significantly from final ranking information for Nova Scotia athletes.

Through this ranking process, athletes in both the Male and Female categories may be deemed eligible to represent Nova Scotia at Regional and National level competitions . The number of athletes in each category that will be eligible does depend on the competition series and eligibility numbers may change each year. Current numbers of eligible athletes (provincial quotas) can be found noted on the Competition Season page for the current year and on the CEC website (www.climbingcanada.ca).  In the event of a tie in total points from the top 2 competitions, results from a third competition for athletes will be used. If only one athlete has attended a third competition, then that athlete will rank higher. If neither athlete has attended a third competition, or this continues to result in a tie, athletes will be allocated the same standing.
